The 2015 annual PCR conference was held at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim, California. The hotel accommodations were exceptional, as was the service. We were treated to a special wine and cheese tasting at Disney’s California Adventure park, along with a performance of the musical spectacular Aladdin. Attendees were also offered special discounted admission tickets to the Disneyland Resort Parks.
Daphne Weiland, our education board member, did an outstanding job in organizing this year’s conference. Attendance this year was 159 and there were 42 vendors. Ample time was provided for attendees to wonder through the exhibit hall and visit the multitude of booths. Several of our vendors sponsored additional breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings, some of which provided CEU credits. We extend many thanks to Andrea for all her hard work in securing such a diverse and knowledgeable group.
Throughout the conference we were treated to a variety of speakers, who provided valuable information and inspiration. Samantha Wellman, a returning speaker from last year, relayed information about how her ostomy gave her a new life. She also gave us information about how to stand up straight. We learned about the medical and legal implications of HAPU”s from Sandra Higelin. And our own Paula Tashjian (PCR board member) spoke on best practices for managing lymphedema.
The General Membership meeting was held Saturday morning, which included a lovely breakfast. PCR president, Lisa Foster, introduced the board, along with our newest members, Monica Chen (communications) and Charleen Deo (education). Welcome aboard ladies! Mary Sears received the “Lifetime Achievement” award and Andrea Rougalis was presented with the “Presidents Award”. Kathy Musgraves, Melinda Miller and Marybeth Dodge were the lucky raffle winners and will receive complimentary registration or one free night at our 2016 conference in Lake Tahoe. Claudette Olaye was the lucky winner of the NPUAP guideline manual. Congratulations to everyone!
PCR will once again have a booth at Nationals this June in San Antonio Texas. Please come by to visit and make sure to enter the raffle for a complimentary registration or hotel room at our 2016 conference. The PCR social in San Antonio will be held on Monday, June 8th from 6:15 PM – 7:30 PM. This is always a wonderful venue, so we hope you will attend.
We sincerely hope that everyone who attended our most recent conference had a magical time and learned some new and valuable things. Please mark your calendars for our next conference, which will be held in April, 2016. Specific dates and hotel information are still pending. We are planning to have some very exciting speakers and surprises, so you won’t want to miss it. Please visit our website at www.PCR.org for more details about this and all the latest PCR news.
