The 2014 annual PCR conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel by the picturesque seashores of Monterey, California. The hotel provided us with beautiful scenery, including golf and tennis courts, and our rooms were well appointed with all the amenities. There were also two wonderful restaurants inside the hotel and wine tasting in the lobby. A free shuttle service was on hand to take attendees to the nearby wharf, where they explored a variety shops and restaurants.
Daphne Weiland, our education board member, did an outstanding job in organizing this year’s conference. Our attendance this year grew from 130 to 160, making this our most successful conference to date. There were over 50 vendors available in the main hall during break times. Many thanks to Andrea for all her hard work in securing such a diverse and knowledgeable group.
Throughout the conference we were treated to a variety of speakers, who provided valuable knowledge and inspiration. One presenter, Samantha Wellman, spoke about how her ostomy gave her a new life and taught us all a little about Pilates. And Shelly Burdette-Taylor provided insight into how to juggle our personal and professional relationships. During breakfast and lunch symposiums, we also learned it isn’t always easy to distinguish between MASD and Pressure.
The General Membership meeting was held Friday afternoon. PCR president Lisa Foster introduced the board, which included two new members, Maureen Porras, treasurer, and Paula Tashjian, membership. Three lucky members; Debbie Goodrich, Alex Cruz-Tokar and Estrella “Star” Harrison, were presented with complimentary registration to our 2015 conference. Congratulations ladies!
During the meeting it was announced that PCR will again have a booth at Nationals in Nashville later this year. Please come by and visit the booth and make sure to enter the raffle for a complimentary ticket to our next conference. The PCR social in Nashville will be held on Monday June 23rd from 5:45 PM – 7:30 PM. This is always a wonderful venue, so we hope many of you will attend.
On Sunday there were two post-conference meetings. Vice President Donna Rositani spoke about Recertification via PGP. Mikel Gray (Continence), Paula Erwin-Toth (Ostomy) and Dorothy Doughty (Wound) conducted a session about WOC review.
We sincerely hope that everyone who attended had a wonderful and educational experience. And for all those lucky winners of the numerous raffles…congratulations!
Please mark your calendars for our next conference, which will be held February 12 – 15, 2015 at the Paradise Pier Hotel disneyland.disney.go.com/paradise-pier-hotel in Anaheim, California. We are planning some very exciting speakers and surprises. You don’t want to miss it. Please visit the website at www.PCR.org for more details about this and all the latest PCR news.
