President’s Message

Greetings to you and yours. Wishing everyone a safe happy holiday season. I wanted to thank the board for their participation this year as we close out 2013 and roll into 2014. There have been some exciting happenings this year and a lot of hard work by the board members who have donated their time into making 2013 a success. Thank you to all and thank you to our members for your continued support.

We had a great turn out at the PCR WOCN social this year in Charlotte, NC. Linda Schultz did a fabulous job of coordinating our dinner and volunteering to lead the task-force involved in a booth display to promote PCR at the National Conference this year. Congratulations to the two lucky drawing winners that received registration to the 2014 15th Annual PCR conference. A special thanks to all members who donated their time to “man” the booth and give additional exposure to PCR nationally. Plans are underway to represent PCR again next year with a booth at the National WOCN conference scheduled to be held June 21 to 25, 2014 in Nashville Tennessee. Donna Rostatini has volunteered to chair the task force for the booth in 2014. Members are encouraged to volunteer and sign up to assist with the booth hours during the PCR WOCN conference.

As president, this year at WOCN, I had the pleasure of attending both a leadership workshop, and a meeting for all the regional presidents and president elects. It was great to collaborate nationally and learn more about our fellow regional chapters. One of the goals nationally is to create more of camaraderie amongst the regions. Jennifer Gavin-Hess was reelected as our Area 1 director at large and continues to be an excellent resource to us regionally.

Daphne has been hard at work in planning our 15th annual conference in beautiful Monterey, CA. Feb 20-22, 2014. Of note, there will be 2 post conference offerings; a certification review course and a PGP recertification process course. Our speaker line up will include Mikel Gray, Paula Erwin-Toth and Dorothy Doughty! Please check out our website – – to read more about the conference. Flyers are in the print process and will be mailed out to members. Early-bird registration discount will be offered, so register early!

A special thanks to our web master, Ande Tucker, Cheryl Bartholomew, nominations committee chair, and Linda Shiraishi and Chungmei Shih for their assistance with this past election.

Congratulations to our newly elected board members!

The criterion were approved at the BOD budget meeting in July. Look for more information to be announced at the General Membership meeting in February at PCR-WOCN conference. Please encourage any WOCN nursing students you know that reside in our region, or have completed their certification in the last six months to apply. Applications will be open soon.
