MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

.As PCR President for 2011-2012, I am honored to be able to represent you during this term. I am in awe of those who have come before me and who are currently serving on the Board of Directors. I want to give Joyce Moss a big ‘Thank You’ for continuing to support me and mentor me in this position.

Our regional conference was held at the Paris/Las Vegas in February, and, as usual, offered a wealth of educational opportunities. For those of you who missed the Vegas conference, start plans now to attend the 2012 regional conference in Napa, CA in February 10-11, 2012. We will be having a pre-conference debridement workshop on February 9th. Our Education Chair is working diligently to make this event a memorable one.

The WOCN annual conference was held in New Orleans June 5-8, 2011. PCR had the honor of having Katherine Jeter attend our social, as PCR was the first region established in 1974, and Katherine Jeter (along with Rosemary Watt) was our first president! She came to thank PCR and its members for supporting her Cycling for Scholarships efforts and overwhelming success. We had standing-room-only at our social!

Your Board is always available to you for questions, concerns, information on members who have received awards, commendations, etc. Our region of California and Nevada is over 400 members now, and we look forward to hearing from you. If you are interested in running for a Board position for the next term or volunteering to help a current Board member, don’t be bashful-we need YOU!

Please take time on a regular basis to read our website and all that it offers our members. It includes the Strategic Plan, job postings, links to other regions, etc.

Have a safe summer!

Cheryl Bartholomew

CONFERENCE

.PCR annual conference was in Las Vegas on February 11 thru 13th. The conference was held at the Paris and Bally Hotel. We enjoyed the lectures on the million dollar heel and sex and the ostmate. Marilyn Magoffin won the Presidents award for her work in Government Affairs and Joyce Moss was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for all her tireless work that she has given to PCR. Nominations for awards are open and you can email you nominations to Deborah Zaricor at dzaricor@goodsam.org

.WOCN conference was held in New Orleans from June 4th to 8th. We had over 100 people who attended our social this year. We enjoyed the local cuisine and caught up with old friends. At the conference there were many lectures geared toward the advance practice nurse and the introduction of a new program “Wound Treatment Associate” which will be available for the WOC nurse to teach. For more information regarding this program please refer to the WOCN website. The next conference will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, June 9-13, 2012

.The WOC Nurse scholarship went to Deborah Zaricor RN CWOCN who attended the WOC nurse week in Washington from April 12 and 13, 2011. There were 13 WOC nurses who attended the conference including the president Kate Lawrence and past president Jan Colwell. The other attendees were Regional Presidents and Government Affairs committee person from all over the country. The Chairperson of the National Public Policy Committee Suzanne Collins helped to keep us on track. The first day the WOC nurses met at our lobbyist offices at Brian Caves to give the WOC nurses education on government affairs and what we would be asking our law makers the next day on the hill. On the 13th we split up into 3 groups and we had back to back meetings with our congressman and senators office. I personally spoke with staffers at Senator Feinstein and Boxers. We informed them of what WOC nurse specialty and asked that the medical device tax not be added to our supplies for our patients. It was extremely educational and a well worth trip.
