2013 Conference - February 28 - March 3 - Parading Through The Pacific Coast Region 30 Years In Full Bloom (PDF format)

PCR Annual Conference
Pasadena California
February 28 - March 3, 2013

The 2013 annual PCR conference was held at the Hilton Hotel in picturesque Pasadena, California. The venue offered wonderful accommodations and amenities for the event. Following the daily sessions, several attendees ventured into the nearby historic downtown area to explore its many shops and restaurants. The area also has numerous classic buildings with beautiful architecture.

We had over 130 attendees this year, which far exceeded our expectations and made it the largest participation to date. There were also over 50 vendors in the main hall, who provided information about their various products and services. Thanks to Andrea for all her hard work in securing such a diverse group.

Our opening speaker was Katherine Jeter, who shared her bicycling adventure across America. She was a dynamic and awe-inspiring speaker. Throughout the conference, we were treated to a variety of speakers who taught us about pediatric issues for the WOC nurse, diagnosing and treating urinary incontinence, concerns with obese and immobile patient, and many other interesting and valuable topics.

Thursday evening, members enjoyed a delicious dinner and were given another opportunity to meet and speak with the vendors. An auction was held for a variety of donated gifts, which brought an overwhelming response from our attendees.

The General Membership meeting was held Saturday morning and included a lovely breakfast. Lisa Foster, the new President, was introduced along with the rest of the board.

Sunday was the post-conference sharp debridement session, which was taught by Carrie Sussman, PT, DPT. Attendees were provided with pigs feet to demonstrate their debridement talents.

There were a number of raffles and prizes throughout the conference. Five members were presented with complimentary registration to the 2014 conference. Congratulations to all the lucky winners!

We sincerely hope everyone who attended had a wonderful and educational experience. Please mark your calendars for our next conference, which will be held February 20 - 22, 2014 in Monterey California at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa. We are planning some exciting speakers and surprises, so you don't want to be left out. Please visit the website at www.PCR.org for all the latest news.

2012 Conference - February, 9-11   Knowledge Uncorked, A Taste of Fine Education (PDF format)

An intoxicating time was had by all at the PCR's annual conference held February 9 - 11, 2012 in beautiful Napa California. The Embassy Suites Hotel was a lovely, relaxing venue with nicely appointed rooms. The grounds were lush with water falls spilling into pools, where swans could be found swimming about. It was a wonderful place to relax with a cup of coffee or a nice glass of wine. This conference boasts the largest participation to date with over 125 attendees.

On February 9th a pre-conference workshop was held by Dot Weir, where attendees had the opportunity to show their skills at debriding pigs' feet. Friday morning things kicked off with an inspirational speech by Rolf Bernieshke, a former NFL kicker for the San Diego Chargers. Throughout the day there were lectures on various topics, which included Atypical Wounds by Susie Seaman, Pressure Ulcer Prevention by Laurie McNichol and New Interventions for Urinary Continence Management by Dr. Heidi Wittenberg.

The General Membership meeting was held Friday evening, where the new Board of Directors were introduced and the revised by-laws were read and voted into practice. At the end of the meeting a raffle was held where five lucky members were presented with complimentary registration to the 2013 conference. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful dinner and had time to meet and speak with a variety of vendors. A silent auction was held in the early evening hours with resounding results.

Saturday we enjoyed presentations by Dr. Pam Lee on Colon - Rectal surgery, and Susan S. Morello on the Do's and Don'ts of Abstract writing. Our closing session was a board panel discussion on Antimicrobials with Q&A from the audience. Multiple raffles were held throughout the day for a variety of gifts. Congratulations to all the lucky winners!

If you were not able to join us this year, please make room on your calendars for next year's conference, which will be held in historical Pasadena, California. Please visit the PCR website for the upcoming dates and information.

2011 Conference - February, 11-13   What you Learn in Las Vegas, Don't Keep it in Las Vegas: Spread the Word (PDF format)

Our annual conference was in Las Vegas on February 11 thru 13th. The conference was held at the Paris and Bally Hotel. We enjoyed the lectures of Paula Erwin-Toth, RN, MSN, CWOCN, CNS on sexuality and the osmate as well as Cyrus Tobari, Esq speaking on the Million Dollar Heel. Other topics were the Care of the Complicated Acute Patient by Tom Wolvos, MD, FACS. Valarie Kalding, MSN, PMHNP-BC spoke about When the Work Environment becomes Hostile, and ostomy tool was presented by Ann Page, RN, BA, CWOCN.

At the conference Marilyn Magoffin received the President's Award for her work in Government Affairs. The President's Award is awarded to an individual who has contributed significantly to PCR or WOC Nursing. She received the award for her outstanding contribution in keeping the membership informed of legislation which involves WOCN nursing and their patients.

Joyce Moss was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Awards. The lifetime achievement award is presented to an individual who has surpassed the standard in terms of their contributions to the organization and who by virtue of experience and contribution has clearly demonstrated a lifetime of accomplishments in the field. To name a few of Joyce's accomplishments, she was instrumental in increasing PCR membership from 280 members in 2004 to 524 in 2010. This is over a 51% increase in membership at a time when many organizations are struggling to maintain their members, much less increasing; she was also helpful in bringing PCR up to date with the new technology with paying for conferences and voting for the board on line. She was the first to do a strategic plan even before national WOCN. Congradulations to our award winners. Pictures from 2011 Conference are here
